Masters Swim - Summer 2012
Dates: Tuesdays & Thursdays, May 29 – August 23 (no Masters 7/3 & 7/5)
Time: 6:00 a.m. – 6:50 a.m.
Location: CACP
Fee: $55 R / $70 NR
Participants will continue building on the skills learned in the previous sessions. We will swim all four strokes (freestyle/front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and occasionally a little butterfly); feel free to join us even if you haven’t mastered them! We will use many drills and tools throughout the session in order to learn and perfect our strokes. We will also be working on our endurance to prepare for the summer season of lake swims. Our workouts are easy on the joints, are scaled for different fitness levels and abilities, and provide great exercise for the whole body. There will be some weeks in which Masters will have a workout, but without a coach on deck.
American Legion Baseball - Winter/Spring 2012

American Legion is a traveling league (transportation required). Games are played in the evenings and on weekends. The schedule will be set by the coaches, and players will be contacted in regards to practices and games.
Level 1- June 11 - July 20
Level 1- Introduction to Water Skills
There are no prerequisites for this course.
The objective of Level 1 is to help students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy to the water safely.
Skills: Submerge mouth, nose and eyes, exhale under water, floating on front and back with support, open eyes underwater and pick up a submerged object, explore arm and hand movements, swim on front and back using arm and leg actions, water safety rules, water entry and exits.
Level 2- June 11 - July 20
Level 2- Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Prerequisites: Passed Level 1, or be able to perform a front float with face in water, back float, and swim on front and back using arm and leg actions.
The objective of Level 2 is to give students success with fundamental skills. Students learn to float without support and to recover to a vertical position. Students explore simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions.
Skills: Enter water by stepping or jumping from the side, exit water from ladder safely, submerge entire head, open eyes under water and pick up submerged object, perform front and back glide, roll over from front to back, back to front, tread water using arm and leg actions, floating on front and back without support, swim on front and back using combined arm and leg actions, swim on side, self-help and basic water rescue skills.
Level 3- June 11 - July 20
Level 3- Stroke Development
Prerequisites: Passed Level 2, or can float on front and back, swim 15 yards on front and back, swim 15 yards using front and back crawls, using kick and alternating arm movement, and can perform rhythmic breathing.
The objective of Level 3 is to build on the skills in Level 2 by providing additional guided practice.
Skills: Jump into deep water from side, dive from kneeling and standing position, submerge and retrieve an object, bob with head fully submerged, use rotary breathing in a horizontal position, front and back glides with kicks, survival float, change from horizontal to vertical on front and back, butterfly kick and body motion, treading water, front and back crawl, safety skills.
Level 4 - June 11 - July 20
Level 4- Stroke Improvement
Prerequisites: Passed Level 3, or can swim 15 yards of coordinated front and back crawls using kick and alternating arm movement, perform rhythmic breathing and can jump into deep water.
The objective of Level 4 is to develop confidence in the strokes learned and to improve other aquatic skills.
Skills: Swim underwater, perform feet first surface dive, open turns on front and back using any stroke, tread water using sculling arm motions and kick, perform front crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, back crawl, elementary backstroke, use safe diving rules, perform compact jump with lifejacket, perform throwing assist and care for conscious choking victim.
Level 5 - June 11 - July 20
Level 5- Stroke Refinement
Prerequisites: Passed Level 4, or can swim 25 yards back crawl and front crawl, 10 yards elementary backstroke, breaststroke kick and sidestroke kick, standing dive into pool and deep water bobbing.
The objective of Level 5 is coordination and refinement of strokes.
Skills: Tread water using two different kicks, shallow dive, survival swimming, perform rescue breathing, standing dives, pike surface dive, tuck surface dive, front flip turn, backstroke flip turn, refining and developing endurance for front crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, back crawl, elementary backstroke, develop sidestroke.
Level 6- June 11 - July 20
Level 6- Swimming and Skill Proficiency
Prerequisites: Passed Level 5, or can swim 25 yards breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke, 50 yards front and back crawls. Can do 15 yards butterfly, perform stride jump, open turns, and 2 minutes treading water.
The objective of Level 6 is to refine strokes so students swim them with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. Level 6 is designed with “menu” options- Personal Water Safety, Fundamentals of Diving, Fitness Swimmer, and Lifeguard Readiness.
Skills/Activities: Depends on the specific Level 6 course being taught.
Parent/Child A - June 11 - July 20
Parent/Child B - June 11 - July 20
Parent/Child Level B is a program for parents and children. Level B if for children who:
• Are 2 to 4 years old and have had two or more previous sessions of water adjustment lessons, submerge only reluctantly (or not at all) or require floatation support at all times.
• Are up to 5 years old and have little or no previous experience in water adjustment lessons, are reluctant to enter the water or submerge, requires floatation support at all times or may benefit from parental presence and support in the water.
Pony League Baseball - Winter/Spring 2012

Pony League is a traveling baseball league (parent transportation required) designed to transition players from Little League to Teener League baseball. The schedule will be set by the league and players will be contacted in regards to practices and games. Uniforms are provided by the CAP. There will be a coaches meeting for anyone interested in coaching Pony or Teener on Tuesday, February 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the CHS commons.

Body FIT - Session I - Summer 2012

Body FIT is a straightforward workout designed for both men & women. Participants will perform high intensity drills that challenge your inner athlete. In each six-week session we will work with different tools such as Bosu, medicine, and fit balls, fitness bands, and jump ropes. Classes may include water and outdoor workouts. If you’re looking to get healthy and back in shape, Body FIT is for you!

Challenge your inner athlete on the beach of Lake Ripley and in the CHS weight room this summer. This no nonsense workout is designed for both men and women. Participants will preform high intensity drills using outdoor elements such as hills, sand, and uneven terrain, along with the tools such as medicine balls, jump ropes, fitness bands, and stability balls. When mother nature isn't cooperating we will take it to the CHS weight room to give you a total body workout with weight training and conditioning skills.

Our volunteer camp will be one your teen will never forget. Participants will feel empowered after giving their time to organizations and people who really need it. The camp will begin with participants getting to know each other through team building activities. Campers will then spend a portion of each day participating in community service projects that range from sorting food at food banks to visiting with area senior citizens. Not only will they partake in important community service activities, but they will also have fun and relax with activities like bowling, swimming, and a cook out. Cost includes all camp supplies, transportation, admission for reward trips, and a snack. Participants are required to bring a sack lunch, swimsuit, towel, change of clothes, and sunscreen with them to camp each day.

Level I: Come to this class to discover all the wonderful benefits of yoga. You will learn safe alignment in many traditional hatha yoga postures and pre-yoga exercises that will help strengthen postural support muscles, improve balance, release tension and calm the mind. In addition to safe alignment, an emphasis is also placed on working with the breath as we work with each pose.
This class is appropriate for those who are newer (or even brand new) to the practice of yoga. If you have been practicing yoga for less than 6 months, have only done yoga to videos or are looking for an easy, relaxing yoga experience, this class is the one for you. Min 8 / Max 18
Level II: In this class we will deepen our practice and build upon the foundations that were explored in Level 1. We will explore deepening our practice both physically and energetically through breath and asana (poses). Students who attend this class should have at least 8 - 12 months of a regular yoga practice and be comfortable exploring full sun salutations and variations of shoulder stand and headstand.

Introductory Word Processing - Summer 2012

This beginner workshop will introduce participants to the very basics of Word processing, including changing text size, bolding, underlining, changing colors, letter shape, saving and printing. We will discuss how to cut and copy text, and how to change the line spacing, and margins. Automatic numbering, bullets, and inserting pictures or graphics will also be included. This class is designed for those who have very little or no experience with Microsoft Word version 2010.

Want to learn a new sport that will last a lifetime? Then join this clinic to learn all the skills you need for Disc Golf and other disc sports. Participants should wear sunscreen.

Level 1- Introduction to Water Skills
There are no prerequisites for this course.
The objective of Level 1 is to help students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy to the water safely.
Skills: Submerge mouth, nose and eyes, exhale under water, floating on front and back with support, open eyes underwater and pick up a submerged object, explore arm and hand movements, swim on front and back using arm and leg actions, water safety rules, water entry and exits.
Level 2- July 30 - August 31
Level 2- Fundamental Aquatic Skills
Prerequisites: Passed Level 1, or be able to perform a front float with face in water, back float, and swim on front and back using arm and leg actions.
The objective of Level 2 is to give students success with fundamental skills. Students learn to float without support and to recover to a vertical position. Students explore simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions.
Skills: Enter water by stepping or jumping from the side, exit water from ladder safely, submerge entire head, open eyes under water and pick up submerged object, perform front and back glide, roll over from front to back, back to front, tread water using arm and leg actions, floating on front and back without support, swim on front and back using combined arm and leg actions, swim on side, self-help and basic water rescue skills.
Level 3- July 30 - August 31
Level 3- Stroke Development
Prerequisites: Passed Level 2, or can float on front and back, swim 15 yards on front and back, swim 15 yards using front and back crawls, using kick and alternating arm movement, and can perform rhythmic breathing.
The objective of Level 3 is to build on the skills in Level 2 by providing additional guided practice.
Skills: Jump into deep water from side, dive from kneeling and standing position, submerge and retrieve an object, bob with head fully submerged, use rotary breathing in a horizontal position, front and back glides with kicks, survival float, change from horizontal to vertical on front and back, butterfly kick and body motion, treading water, front and back crawl, safety skills.
Level 4 - July 30 - August 31
Level 4- Stroke Improvement
Prerequisites: Passed Level 3, or can swim 15 yards of coordinated front and back crawls using kick and alternating arm movement, perform rhythmic breathing and can jump into deep water.
The objective of Level 4 is to develop confidence in the strokes learned and to improve other aquatic skills.
Skills: Swim underwater, perform feet first surface dive, open turns on front and back using any stroke, tread water using sculling arm motions and kick, perform front crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, back crawl, elementary backstroke, use safe diving rules, perform compact jump with lifejacket, perform throwing assist and care for conscious choking victim.
Level 5 - July 30 - August 31
Level 5- Stroke Refinement
Prerequisites: Passed Level 4, or can swim 25 yards back crawl and front crawl, 10 yards elementary backstroke, breaststroke kick and sidestroke kick, standing dive into pool and deep water bobbing.
The objective of Level 5 is coordination and refinement of strokes.
Skills: Tread water using two different kicks, shallow dive, survival swimming, perform rescue breathing, standing dives, pike surface dive, tuck surface dive, front flip turn, backstroke flip turn, refining and developing endurance for front crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, back crawl, elementary backstroke, develop sidestroke.
Level 6- July 30 - August 31
Level 6- Swimming and Skill Proficiency
Prerequisites: Passed Level 5, or can swim 25 yards breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke, 50 yards front and back crawls. Can do 15 yards butterfly, perform stride jump, open turns, and 2 minutes treading water.
The objective of Level 6 is to refine strokes so students swim them with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. Level 6 is designed with “menu” options- Personal Water Safety, Fundamentals of Diving, Fitness Swimmer, and Lifeguard Readiness.
Skills/Activities: Depends on the specific Level 6 course being taught.

Parent/Child B - July 30 - August 31
Parent/Child Level B is a program for parents and children. Level B if for children who:
• Are 2 to 4 years old and have had two or more previous sessions of water adjustment lessons, submerge only reluctantly (or not at all) or require floatation support at all times.
• Are up to 5 years old and have little or no previous experience in water adjustment lessons, are reluctant to enter the water or submerge, requires floatation support at all times or may benefit from parental presence and support in the water.

The objective of Skippers 1 is to focus on water adjustment, safety and basic swimming skills.
Skills: Submerge mouth, nose, and eyes, water entries and exits, water safety.

The objective of Skippers 2 is start to develop fundamental skills.

Challenge your inner athlete on the beach of Lake Ripley and in the CHS weight room this summer. This no nonsense workout is designed for both men and women. Participants will preform high intensity drills using outdoor elements such as hills, sand, and uneven terrain, along with the tools such as medicine balls, jump ropes, fitness bands, and stability balls. When mother nature isn't cooperating we will take it to the CHS weight room to give you a total body workout with weight training and conditioning skills.

Lake Ripley Ride - Summer 2012

The Cambridge Lake Ripley Ride features three distances: a family friendly 22-mile (mostly flat) route, a longer and slightly hilly 40-mile route, and a more challenging 62-mile metric century route. You will ride quiet country roads and visit Cambridge, Rockdale, Marshall, and London. Registration includes t-shirt, map/cue sheet, scenic rest stops, sag wagon, a sandy swimming beach, and a FANTASTIC post-ride celebration featuring live music and a tasty Cambridge Lions Club dinner. Based on the American Red Cross guidelines, this course trains participants to teach water safety, including the Basic Water Rescue course and six levels of the Learn to Swim and Parent and Child Aquatics. Upon successful completion of course, you will receive a Water Safety Instructor (valid for two calendar years) certificate from the American Red Cross. Participants must successfully complete the pretest on the first day in order to continue with the course and attend all dates. Min 6 participants

Level I: Come to this class to discover all the wonderful benefits of yoga. You will learn safe alignment in many traditional hatha yoga postures and pre-yoga exercises that will help strengthen postural support muscles, improve balance, release tension and calm the mind. In addition to safe alignment, an emphasis is also placed on working with the breath as we work with each pose.
This class is appropriate for those who are newer (or even brand new) to the practice of yoga. If you have been practicing yoga for less than 6 months, have only done yoga to videos or are looking for an easy, relaxing yoga experience, this class is the one for you. Min 8 / Max 18
Level II: In this class we will deepen our practice and build upon the foundations that were explored in Level 1. We will explore deepening our practice both physically and energetically through breath and asana (poses). Students who attend this class should have at least 8 - 12 months of a regular yoga practice and be comfortable exploring full sun salutations and variations of shoulder stand and headstand.

Fall Recreational Soccer - Summer 2012
Dates: Saturdays, September 8 – October 13

In this fun, exciting, recreational soccer league your child will learn fundamentals, rules and basic plays. Games are played at 8:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m., or 10:00 a.m., depending on registration numbers. Practices are held for the different teams at the discretion of their respective coaches. You will be contacted by a coach regarding your child’s team assignment. Anyone interested in coaching is asked to attend a coaches meeting on Tuesday, August 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the CES commons.

Open to children currently enrolled in 4K or kindergarten. U6 is intended to be an introduction to soccer, focusing on the fundamentals of the game and having fun. Children will play small sided soccer (3 on 3) on small sized fields (25 X 30 yards). They play four 8 minute quarters; referees and goalies are not used at this level.
U8
Designed for children in grades 1 and 2; children will play 4 on 4, on a 30 X 35 yard field. They will play four 10 minute quarters; referees and goalies are not used at this level.
U9
The U9 program will be offered to children in grades 3-4 whom are interested in continuing to play recreational soccer. The U9 program will be structured based upon enrollment numbers.
NFL Flag Football - Summer 2012

NFL Flag Football will have your child begging for more! Your child will receive a top of the line NFL jersey as part of their participation. New this year, players will participate in training camp on Wednesday, September 5 from 6:30 p.m. – to 7:30 p.m. lead by local coaches and players. A coaches meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 21 at 7:15 p.m. at the CES commons for anyone interested in coaching. Players will be contacted by the coaches as to your child’s team assignment. CAP CARE Initial Registration (Grades 4K-4)
CAP CARE is be a state licensed group child care facility that provides before and after school care to children in grades 4K-4.

What better way to end the summer than a trip to Noah’s Ark? Gather your friends for a day of fun in the sun! Participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch, change of clothes, sunscreen, and extra money for games or snacks. Cost includes admission and transportation; bus will depart from CES.

Mission Statement
The Cambridge Community Activities Program encourages and promotes life-long wellness by providing a variety of high-quality recreational activities, learning opportunities, aquatics programs, and services to the broad Cambridge area community.
Insurance
The Cambridge Community Activities Program does not provide medical or accident insurance for any program participants. Participants are encouraged to obtain their own insurance coverage prior to participating in programs.
Notice of Non-Discrimination
No person shall, on the basis of sex, race, color, sexual orientation, national origin, religion or creed, ancestry, age, marital status, or disability be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity, including employment.
Harassment Policy
The Cambridge Community Activities Program is committed to providing an environment in which employees and patrons are treated with courtesy and respect. The Cambridge CAP prohibits sexual harassment and harassing words or conduct directed towards others.
Program Cancellations
The Cambridge Community Activities Program reserves the right to cancel a program due to low enrollment. Participants will be contacted at least three days prior to an activity being cancelled. Fees for programs cancelled by the Activities Program due to low enrollment will be refunded.
Programs are subject to cancellation due to inclement weather, holidays, or facility conflicts. The CAP will attempt to reschedule a makeup session for such occasions, but this can not be guaranteed. For cancellation information call (608) 423-8108, or visit http://www.cambridgecap.net/ Please note the following scenarios:
- When the School District of Cambridge is closed or dismisses early due to inclement weather, CAP activities will be cancelled. However, in the event of a late start or school cancellation due to inclement weather, 6 am lap swim will operate as scheduled unless otherwise posted on NBC 15, as well as CAP voicemail by 5:30 am.
- For public safety, the CAP reserves the rights to close the pool should conditions arise that are deemed hazardous to pool patrons or staff.
- For the protection of all participants, the Cambridge Community Pool will be closed from the first sight of lightning until 30 minutes after the last sighting.
Tobacco/Alcohol Use Policy
A reminder to program participants that the use of all tobacco products or consumption of alcoholic beverages on premises owned by the Cambridge School District is prohibited by State Law.
School District Cooperation
The Community Activities Program would like to thank the Cambridge School District for their support and cooperation with facility use and scheduling. The extra time and energies from administrative assistants, custodians, teachers, and principals is greatly appreciated.
Photo Policy
The Cambridge Community Activities Program uses pictures of participants in bulletins and displays to inform others of our recreational opportunities. If you do not want a picture taken, please inform the director prior to the start of the program.
Volunteer Opportunities
Many volunteer opportunities are available within the Cambridge CAP, as volunteers are needed to make this program successful. Please list your name, telephone number, and the particular area that you are interested in volunteering with on the registration form. To ensure the safety of our participants background checks are performed on all CAP employees and volunteers.
