Seasons and Age Groups
The U-6 and U-8 Bridge fall season begins in mid-September and ends in late October/early November. The U-6 and U-8 Bridge spring season begins in mid-March and ends late April/early May. We will have specific season dates available when registration opens for that season. Fall registration will typically begin in August and spring registration in February. These groups play 6 games and have one make-up date built in at the end, if needed.
U-8, U-10 and U-12 Richmond City Parks and Recreation League season is similar, but we will not have specific dates until we receive them from the league. The fall season includes playoffs.
For the Fall and Spring 2011 Season, the age groups are as follows:
U-6: Co-ed under 6 years of age - Born between 8/1/2005 and 7/31/2007
U-8: Co-ed under 8 years of age - Born between 8/1/2003 and 7/31/2005
(All Fox 1st graders are assigned to the U-8 “Bridge” league unless parents request they “play up”)
U-10: Co-ed under 10 years of age - Born between 8/1/2001 and 7/31/2003
U-12: Co-ed under 12 years of age- Born between 8/1/1999 and 7/31/2001
** Players may "play up", upon committee approval.
** Players may NOT “play down” to a younger division.
There are two U-8 teams – U-8 Bridge and U-8. What’s the difference?
Typically, Fox first graders play on the U-8 bridge team (against other Fox students after school on Fridays) while Fox second graders play on the Richmond City U-8 league (against other City schools on Saturdays). If you feel your first grader is up to the challenge, you may request that your child “play up” and join the older players on the City U-8 league team.
Registration Deadlines and Waiting Lists
In order to provide rosters to the City and to deliver team uniforms in a timely manner, all registrations must be received by the deadline indicated. Under special circumstances and at the discretion of the Soccer Committee, late registrations may be accepted. If a late registration is accepted, there will be a $10 late fee charged.
There are a limited number of player registrations available, based on number of coaches. When the teams reach capacity, we will begin a waiting list in the order of registration. If space becomes available, we will accept players from the waiting list.
How do I register?
Online registration is now available –
http://www.sportssignup.com/Fox-Elementary-School-Online-Registration.start
Click the "Login/Register" button to begin. If you are having trouble with this, or know of someone who does not have internet access to register, please contact Laura Brady at 804-301-9253, or the Fox Soccer Committee at wmfoxsoccer@gmail.com.
Parents of U-8, U-10 and U-12 players must provide one copy of your child’s birth certificate (as required by the City Parks and Recreation Dept) each season. If registering online, please bring the copy to the coach at the first practice/game. Your child will not be allowed to play until it is received.
Team Assignments and Practice Times
Registration is first come, first served, with current Fox students given priority. Teams will be created based on coach and field availability. We will also try to balance the teams based on age. When possible, returning players will be grouped with their returning teammates and coach.
U-6 and U-8 Bridge teams practice and play on Fridays (20-minute practice followed by a 40-minute game). U-6 begins at 4 p.m. U-8 Bridge begins at 5 p.m.
U-8, U-10 and U-12 teams typically practice at Fox, 1-2 days per week, at the discretion of the coach. Games are played on Saturdays, at Bryan Park, or Humprey Calder Community Center.
Can I request a specific coach, or practice day?
If your child played the previous season at Fox, we will try to keep them on their existing team. If their coach is also returning, we will keep as much of the team with that coach as possible. If you have a specific request, please indicate it in the registration comments. We will try our best to accommodate you.
Once your child has been assigned a coach, he/she will contact you regarding practice days/times. If you have a conflict with a specific practice day, please indicate that in the registration comments. We will try our best to accommodate you.
** Please make any special requests prior to the close of registration. Team rosters are formed when registration is closed and it becomes more difficult to make changes.
I would like to help out, do you need volunteers?
We always need volunteer coaches and assistants. Fox and the City League have a coaches’ training session each season.
If you are interested, please contact the Co-chairs listed below.
What equipment is needed?
The Fox uniform consists of a purple Fox jersey, black shorts, purple socks, shin guards and soccer cleats/sneakers. For new players, purple Fox jerseys and socks can be purchased at registration. All players MUST wear shin guards, so please make sure your child has these prior to the first game.
Go Green, Recycle Your Old Gear!
If you have old equipment, the soccer committee is accepting donations of used equipment. Just put them in the Soccer Box in the school office and we will make sure that they are recycled to deserving soccer players.
If you need equipment, please contact one of the Co-Chairs to make a request.
