Tom was also selected to the first 19 year old and under United States World Team, which captured a gold medal in Perth, Australia in 1988.
As a football player, Tom was selected as a first team New York State running back. He was also named to the Adidas and USA Today All American teams. Tom won the 1986 Carl Hansen Award, given to Suffolk County’s best high school football player.
COLLEGE - From St. Anthony’s, Tom first attended The University of Maryland, College Park. There, he worked to become a starting midfielder for the Terrapins, as a freshman. He then transferred to Syracuse University and took on the roll of face-offs as a midfielder for the Orangemen. The teams went on to compete for three national Championships. The Orangemen’s 1990 National Champions have been named “The Team of the Century” by several lacrosse publications and the U.S. Lacrosse foundation. Tom represented Syracuse University in the 1992 North/South Lacrosse classic as the top midfield vote getter for the North.
COACHING – Through the years, Tom has coached youth teams from different areas including Huntington and Smithtown. Tom has also served as both a football and lacrosse coach at St. Anthony’s High School, and has won championships at several different levels.
Tom now brings his experience and contacts to The Long Island Stampede, where he will be helping the coaching staff at the different levels, and help in some of the day to day operations of the club.
Tom is also available for private and group instruction through his company, The Lax Academy. Here, Tom can spend more individual time with players and focus on each players strengths and weaknesses. Emphasis is placed on individual skills and team play philosophy, as well as the development of strength, agility and conditioning programs for each player.
