Welcome to SYSO (Somers Youth Sports Organization): SYSO is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting, organizing and administering youth sports programs for the children of Somers. SYSO is not a Town run (Parks & Recreation) program.
The philosophy of SYSO is to encourage a healthy level of competition while stressing safety and participation for all, regardless of skill or ability.
If you are interested in learning more about the ways you can help, please contact the Commissioner.
Dear Parents, Coaches and SYSO Football Players:
Welcome to SYSO Boys Football for the Fall 2012 season.
Our program was developed to provide young athletes with the opportunity to gain an appreciation and understanding of the game of football in a fun and competitive learning environment. Our goal is to help all players improve their football skills, no matter what their ability level, through dedicated coaching and healthy competition. Our focus is on blocking and tackling skills, offensive and defensive drills and playing a challenging game schedule. Younger players learn the fundamentals of the game, while older players experience more advanced skill work.
We stress the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork. We expect all of our players, coaches and parents to conduct themselves properly at all times. The SYSO Boys Football Program places an emphasis on teaching our young athletes to respect their teammates, coaches, opponents and officials. These values must be followed and encouraged by all involved.
This 2012 season is bringing with it several changes that are going to capitalize on the past success of our program and fuel its growth and success for years to come!
1) Commissioner Change:
For starters the commissioner reigns are being passed from Tom Jocelyn to myself, Stephen Krug. When you have a moment, please join me in thanking Tom for all his tremendous efforts in taking our program to new heights and making it the most successful year we have ever had. My plan is to continue making progress on many of his efforts, leveraging their success and growing the program even stronger and more successful.
2) Taconic Youth Football & Cheer League:
We are no longer associated with the CVL (Candlewood Valley League). This is a meaningful and impressive change from previous years. We are fortunate to have become one of several founding programs in the Taconic Youth Football and Cheer League (TYFC).
We will share more information about this league in the weeks and months ahead however in summary, we are a local NY league that will be competing against more appropriately aligned NY football programs.
3) Brand New Helmets:
The program has purchased all new state-of-the-art "Air" fit helmets. Every player in our program will be wearing one of these brand new helmets this year.
4) Volunteer Deposit Program:
This season we will be instituting a Volunteer Deposit Program. This initiative will require every family that is participating in our program to have a $75 check on deposit with the program, per registered player (this deposit is in addition to the registration fee). At the end of the season, the checks will be given back to those families that have completed 4 hrs. of volunteer service to the program (per player). Those families that have not completed their volunteer service hours will have their checks cashed and proceeds used to fund on-going program needs. Our intention with this initiative is not to raise money; it is instead being used as an incentive to increase volunteer participation across our youth football community. More on this in the coming weeks and months as well.
5) New Football Jersey's:
Along with our new helmets, the program is intending to use new football jerseys. These jerseys will be paid for by the participating families at all team levels and thereby theirs to keep once the season is over.
Registration will be open for a limited time period so please make every effort to register as soon as possible so proper planning can be made.
Additional emails will be sent but if you have any questions you can email me or call my cell 914-649-5008.
All the best for a great season,
Stephen Krug
