Welcome Villa Park Spartan Football Players to the 2011 Season
Greetings VPHS Football Families,
The new year is upon us and behind the scenes it’s time to begin gearing up for the 2011 football season. Football is a competitive team sport known for mixing complex strategy with intense physical play. High school football or preps football is one of the most popular interscholastic sports. Many look at football and judge accomplishment by wins alone. In years like this year I feel it important to reflect on the program which since being established in 1964 has earned 1 CIF Championship, 12 League Championships and 24 CIF Playoff appearances. Head Coach Dusan Ancich begins his third year here at VPHS. Coach Ancich has already begun a new era for the Spartan program. He has brought together a tremendous coaching staff for all levels! It is with pride that our football players can claim the hereditary accomplishments of their alumni as they forge ahead seeking victory donning the Spartan uniform.
Throughout Orange County, Villa Park High School athletics is renowned and the football program has been unsurpassed. This next season will begin a long road to build back up what once was a strong program. In recent years several competitive high schools have emerged, raising the bar of their football programs. The reality is VPHS is in competition with local private schools that have become top programs in the nation. In an effort to get Spartan Football back on top we feel the need to support the program, staff and players through an active booster club; we encourage you to become involved.
The success of the Boosters and the support of the program depend on the involvement of the football parents. Though the first game in not until September 2011, preparation for the season has already begun. Several efforts are in progress to build upon team unity, spirit, camaraderie, conditioning and most importantly, strength.
I would like to take this opportunity to express appreciation to the Villa Park and Orange businesses, residents and VPHS families that have supported the Spartan Football Program for many past seasons. Without your continued support our athletes would not have the facilities and quality program that provide the foundation of Villa Park football.
Many past supporters have donated a great deal of time and financial support. Local businesses have donated their hard-earned dollars for the success of the Spartan Football Program. As the year progresses we will be acknowledging those who support the program. Please show your appreciation, patronize these businesses, and in doing so, thank them for their support of …your SPARTANS!!!
We are off and running. It is projected the 2011 program will field approximately 140 players. We need to emphasize the need for involvement from all parents, not just senior parents. I understand your schedules are hectic and you may already be supporting one or more additional VPHS programs. With that, I would ask for your consideration with volunteering time with one or more of the positions needed on the Booster club.
I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR PARTICIPATION ~ GO SPARTANS!!!
Respectfully,
Jeff Pogue, President
