December 1, 2009
Dear WAX Families,
On behalf of the Westminster Area Lacrosse Board of Directors, I’d like to welcome you back for our 8th season!
It’s hard to believe that in those eight years we’ve gone from a great idea to what we are today: Westminster’s premier recreational lacrosse league with nearly 600 boys and girls participating last year. We are proud of this group of youths and strive to make each season even better than the last.
I’d like to take a moment to introduce our 2009-2010 Board of Directors. My name is John Coakley and I’ve been coaching with WAX for seven of those eight years and served as Assistant Director last year. Scott McKelvie will be our Assistant Director this year. The Boys Coordinator is Mark Slater, and he is assisted by Bob Jenkins. The Girls Coordinator is Beth Nave, assisted by Gina Barnes. Mark Shearer will remain Treasurer, Cindy Lowry is Secretary, and Field/Equipment Coordinator is Rick Syens.
Based on your feedback we have made several changes to our procedures this year. Most importantly, we are conducting the registration for our 2010 Spring Season online. In the past we have mailed out registrations to each family; this year you won’t be receiving these in the mail. Instead, please go to our website www.waxlax.org and you will see a link to the registration site on our home page. The registration process is easy and you will be prompted on how to register your children with WAX for the upcoming Spring Season. We have kept the registration fees the same this year as they were last year, and once you have registered your children you have the choice of paying by credit card or printing the form and mailing it to us with your check. The registration site is open now!
We will also (in the very near future) be posting a link on the website to our new online WAXwear ordering site. The online catalog will include everything you need for parents and players to display your WAX Pride in and around Carroll County! This new site will also give you the ability to purchase online using a credit card or check.
WAX always has many programs and clinics happening all year and it is important to check our website often to keep current on the many happenings. We also post links to various other clinics being held in the area and keep you updated with Club Opportunities in the local club programs.
Lastly, I’d like to reach out to you parents who might consider volunteering with WAX. We have many volunteer positions open – whether it is helping maintain the fields, being a team parent, or working directly with the kids as a coach or assistant coach. So many times I’ve had parents tell me they don’t feel they know enough about lacrosse to coach the kids so I’d like to announce that we are providing “Coach Clinics” to help keep all coaches current on rules, practice plans and strategy. Even if you have never coached before we will coach you! Every outstanding coach that WAX has today started out with limited knowledge as a volunteer assistant coach. There is a place on the online registration form to volunteer for any position. Thank you very much to all of our current volunteers – the boys and girls can’t enjoy lacrosse without everything you do for them.
If anyone has questions please contact any board member for help. There is a Board of Directors page on our website that has all of our contact information. Questions may also be emailed to info@waxlax.org and your question will be routed to the appropriate person.
Looking forward to 2010 and GO WAX!!!
John Coakley, Director
