WSAA Purpose
The Westside Youth Athletic Athletic Association (WSYAA) is a non-profit youth athletic association, whose sole purpose is to serve the youth of the Westside Community. It is comprised entirely of volunteers and 90% of its funding is provided through internal fundraising means. It is the largest youth athletic association in Whitfield County.
The Westside Youth Athletic Association is a charitable, volunteer organization designed to provide a positive environment for the development of sportsmanship, athletic skills and character. We operate programs for youth between the ages of 4 and 18 in baseball, softball, football, cheerleading, and basketball. These programs are managed in accordance with guidelines set forth by national and international youth sports organizations. This organization serves the youth of Westside and Whitfield County, Georgia
Mission Statement & Goals
Westside Youth Athletic Association's mission is to impress upon young people the benefits of physical fitness within the concept of competitive team sports and the rules of the sport.
Members of the association shall be members of good moral character who are interested in the promotion of the goals of the association. Members must reside within specific boundaries set by the organizations with which we are affiliated. Below are our goals.
To provide a proper and safe sports environment for our youth.
To enhance the emotional, physical, social and education well-being of our youth.
To appoint, evaluate, educate and support the managers and coaches who will instruct our participants, keeping in mind the best interests of our children
To assure basic levels of knowledge and instruction are introduced at each level of play.
To encourage parents to take an active role in the youth sports experience of their child and our association.
To adequately communicate to our members, all policies and rules changes in policies and rules, activities, events and any other pertinent information.
To guarantee equal opportunity for membership to all youth regardless of race, creed, sex, economic status or ability.
WSYAA has no paid staff. WSYAA is responsible for providing all equipment and uniforms to it's youth. The Whitfield County Recreation Department assumes responsibility for all field maintenance.
Since there is no local westside Government entity, WSYAA is the only Westside community organization that represents the entire Westside community.
Article II of the Constitution and By-Laws of the Westside Youth Athletic Association states "….the community is the backbone of our American way of life, and that upon its strength depends the future of America, and that the greatest handicap to building and maintaining a strong rural community is the difficulty of getting a group of rural people representing all sports, interests and segments of the community together regularly, so that problems affecting the community may be systematically and thoroughly considered….."
WSYAA meets each month on the second Sunday of each month at 2:00 at the Westside Elementary School Gym. Every parent is encouraged to attend and participate.
