Hereford Lacrosse “A” Team Evaluations:
PLEASE NOTE YOU MUST BE REGISTERED FOR THE SPRING 2012 LACROSSE SEASON IN ORDER TO TRYOUT FOR THE "A" TEAM.
Hereford Lacrosse will be holding “A” Team Evaluations for Boys Lacrosse age groups Lightning, Midget and Junior on November 29th, December 1st, December 4th, December 7th and December 10th (Please see schedule below).
Hereford Lacrosse will be holding "A" Team Evaluations for Girls Lacrosse age groups Tyker, Lightning, Midget, and a Junior Talent evaluation on November 28th, November 30th, December 3rd, December 6th, December 8th, December 11th (Please see schedule below)
All evaluation sessions will be held on the Hereford High School Turf Field. These evaluations are for participants who wish to try-out for placement on an “A” level team. Please only sign your son or daughter up for these evaluation sessions if they want to be considered for “A” Team placement. “A” team members are asked to commit to Hereford Lacrosse in the spring as their primary sport and team selection will take into account not only the players skill level and ability on the field but the players commitment to making all “A” Team practices and games. The MYLA schedule will take priority over all other spring activities. The HARCO schedule is a supplemental program and Hereford's participation in HARCO, as well as any pre or post season tournaments, will be determined by the individual coach and player interest. Tyker A for boys will have evaluations at a later date.
All parents and spectators are to view evaluation sessions from behind the fence surrounding the HS Turf Field. The only individuals permitted on the Turf Field are Hereford Lacrosse evaluators and participants. Because our mission is to foster the long-term development of players for the Hereford program, eligibility for "A" team tryouts requires the previous year’s participation in the Hereford Lacrosse program (Spring 2011 and/or 2011 Indoor Lacrosse seasons). Families who have moved and are new to the area, or players seeking to waive the eligibility requirement because they live in the Hereford Zone but have participated in another recreation council, should contact the Boy’s Commissioner, Cory Williams (cdwilliams@jhnetwork.com) or the Girl's Comissioner, Jim Jenkins (jjenkins@scandh.com) and submit a written request to the Hereford Lacrosse Board.

AGE ELIGIBILITY
Our registration system will determine what age group your will be placed in for the Spring 2012 Lacrosse Season. Hereford Lacrosse Does Not Allow "Playing Up." There is specific program information at each level. After following the appropriate age group link, please read through your daughters age group information before finalizing your registration.
The Hereford Lacrosse program is a member of the Maryland Youth Lacrosse Association (MYLA) and adheres to their age eligibility guidelines. The 2012 MYLA Age group cutoff dates are as follows:
SPIRIT: Birthdates 9/1/2005 - 8/31/2006
TYKER: Birthdates 9/1/2002 - 8/31/2005
LIGHTNING: Birthdates 9/1/2000 - 8/31/2002
MIDGET: Birthdates 9/1/1998 - 8/31/2000
JUNIORS: Birthdates 1/1/1997 - 8/31/1998
REFUNDS After registration closes no refunds will be granted except on a case-by-case basis. For boys refunds please email the Boy’s Commissioner, Cory Williams (cdwilliams@jhnetwork.com). For girls refunds please email the Girl's Commissioner, Jim Jenkins (jjenkins@scandh.com). All registration fee refunds that are granted by the Hereford Lacrosse Commissioner are reduced by $30.00 for administrative service fees ($10 for Spirit).
PROGRAM JUMPING HZRPC is a member of the Maryland Youth Lacrosse Association (MYLA). As part of their by-laws, multiple registrations between different recreational programs and recruiting players already participating in a program is strictly prohibited. If you have registered your child for Hereford Lacrosse and wish to change programs, you must obtain a release from the Hereford program stating that the player has not been recruited by their new program. Failing to obtain a release and playing for another program will result in your player being penalized.
JUNIORS If your son is trying out for a High School Junior Varsity team this spring, you are encouraged to register for the Hereford Juniors age group. Registrants will receive a full refund if they make any of the High School teams. We anticipate that J.V. cuts will be made in early March 2012, but we need to have your son registered and participate in evaluations, even if he does not ultimately participate in our program. This helps us tremendously with our evaluation schedule and team selection as it is much easier to delete a player's information than it is to get all of their information and evaluate them at the last minute. Junior’s registration will remain open until J.V. cuts have been made, not the January 17th deadline. However, in order to guarantee your son a spot in the Junior program, they need to be registered by the January 17th deadline. Hereford lacrosse reserves the right to limit the number of participants/teams after the deadline. If boys wish to be considered for the Junior A team, they must attend the evaluation sessions. This includes returning Junior A players. Do not count on your son making the High School team and then have something happen that prevents him from playing. You will be issued a full refund if they make any of the High School teams. DO NOT WAIT until after the High School cuts have been made to try and register for Juniors, there is no guarantee that we will have open spots. If you have questions, please contact the boy’s junior coordinator Alan Seider (aeseider@comcast.net).
SPIRIT Spirit is an in-house instructional league for players with birthdays between 9/1/2005 and 8/31/2006 where coaches will teach fundamentals. This is a non-competitive, non-contact learning environment with once-weekly practices and games to reinforce the skills learned during practice. Hereford Lacrosse recommends two years of instruction for players at the spirit level, although MYLA allows 2nd year players to participate in the Tyker age group. We will do our best to accommodate any registrants for this program and will leave registration open for this age group until March 31st. The registration cost of $75 includes a pinny, stick, and a ball. Boys are expected to provide their own helmet, shoulder pads, gloves, cup and mouth guard (arm pads optional). Girls will need to provide their own goggles and mouth guard.
TYKER Boys Tyker program changes for 2012: The Tyker A-Team will play 10v10 and compete in the MYLA (Saturday) league with an option, determined by the head coach and players, to compete in the HARCO (Sunday) league. Tryouts for the A-team will be in February and ALL Tyker players are welcome and encouraged to attend. The team will be selected by independent evaluators. After A team selection, teams will be split evenly with the remaining boys. Additional evaluations may be held at that time. “In-house” teams will play 7v7 and roster approximately 10-12 players per team. The focus will be to teach the players the fundamentals of lacrosse and provide them the opportunity to compete in a league against other teams with similar skills and experience. The “in-house” teams will compete against each other and other recreational lacrosse programs that roster a level playing field.
COACHING Hereford Lacrosse would like to continue to foster the development and training of coaches for our program. There are several training opportunities through the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) and the U.S. Lacrosse Association. If you are interested in coaching or assisting, please consider participating in these clinics. Please contact the Boys Education and Training Coordinator, Sam Reider (Samuel.Reider@LibertyMutual.com) or the Girls Education and Training Coordinator, Anne Greene (annegreene1996@gmail.com), for additional information.
OTHER EVALUATIONS B and C team evaluations have not been scheduled at this time. An instructive e-mail will be sent to registrants once this information becomes available. Trying out for an A team does not guarantee your spot on a B team. If you do not make an A team, you must attend the B/C team evaluations to be properly placed on a team. If you have additional registration questions, please contact Boys Registration Coordinator, Jenn Kernan at jlkernan05@yahoo.com or Girls Registration Coordinator, James Arthur at jarthur@telecomsys.com
Thank you for supporting Hereford Lacrosse!
