Welcome to SYSO Boys Lacrosse:
The Somers Boys Youth Lacrosse program is operated under the Somers Youth Sports Organization (SYSO) and Somers boys in grades 1-8 are eligible to participate.
SYSO is an all-volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to promoting, organizing and administering youth sports programs for the children of Somers. The philosophy of SYSO is to encourage a healthy level of competition while stressing safety and participation for all, regardless of skill or ability. If you are interested in learning more about the ways you can help, please contact the Commissioner.
Dear Parents, Coaches and SYSO Lacrosse Players:
The Somers Boys Youth Lacrosse Program is expected to run from the beginning of April through mid-June. Our program is structured as an “in-town” program designed to provide young athletes with the opportunity to gain an appreciation and understanding of the game of lacrosse in a fun and competitive learning environment. Our goal is to help all players improve their lacrosse skills, no matter what their ability level, through dedicated coaching and healthy competition.
We are unique as an “in-town” program as we do travel and participate in the very competitive Westchester/Connecticut area lacrosse circuit as well as compete in tournaments outside our immediate region that further elevate the level of competitive play.
We are unique as an “in-town” program as we do travel and participate in the very competitive Westchester/Connecticut area lacrosse circuit as well as compete in tournaments outside our immediate region that further elevate the level of competitive play.
In order to maximize each player’s ability to learn and compete, we will do our best to structure competitive teams at each level of play. In doing so we must also consider the coaching resources available to us as a youth sports community. In striving to accomplish this, it may lead to teams of different skill levels within each age division and a more balanced approach at others.
This will be decided by the coaches and the commissioner as to what they believe is in the best interest of our players based off of our registrations. This approach may involve tryouts for competitive/dedicated teams in combination with skill based teams at the same grade/play level. We will consider all factors mentioned above in creating teams for this upcoming spring season.
Below please find a brief description of our program at each level of play:
7/8 Grade
This level of play is intended to prepare our youth participants for the competitive level of play at the high school level. While not all players will have equal skill sets or the same level of commitment to our spring program, we will work to establish teams that will focus on the needs of all our players. At this level, players are expected to be at practice 4-5 times a week with travel games and tournaments in their schedule, both during the week and on weekends.
5/6 Grade
At this level our players move into a more competitive atmosphere and focus on the same aspects of the game that is played at the higher levels. Players are expected to be practicing/playing 3-4 days a week with travel games and tournaments on weekdays and weekends throughout the season.
3/4 Grade
This is our programs first level of competitive, travel style play. As at all competitive levels within our program, we will do our best to structure teams that provide the players the education and development needed to accommodate all players while giving them the opportunity to compete as best as possible against the other teams in our league. Players are expected to be practicing and playing in games and some tournaments 3-4 days a week.
1/2 Grade Clinic
The clinic level is intended as an educational program that will focus on teaching
the proper fundamentals and skills required to play the game. The clinic meets 2x per week, once during the week and once over the weekend. We will also arrange scrimmages with other teams in our leagues that have similar 1/2 programs. The structure of the clinic is highly dependent on the number of participants and coaches involved from season to season.
At all levels of our program, we stress the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork. We expect all of our players, coaches and parents to conduct themselves properly at all times. The SYSO Boys Lacrosse Program places an emphasis on teaching our young athletes to respect their teammates, coaches, opponents and officials. These values must be followed and encouraged by all involved.
Lastly, our program is a volunteer organization and we need your help!!The more help we get, the more success our program will continue to achieve.NO EXPERIENCE is needed in order to help. There are numerous ways to get involved so don’t be shy.Feel free to reach to me via email, phone or in and round town or the fields.
