SYSA operates in conjunction with the Somers Department of Parks & Recreation and is governed by an Executive Board. If you are interested in learning more about the ways you can help, please contact the Commissioner. The Philosophy of SYSA is to encourage a healthy level of competition while stressing safety and participation for all, regardless of skill or ability. This is accomplished through programs that are both recreational and educational for children and their parents. For additional information, the SYSA by laws may be downloaded @www.somersny.com S.Y.S.A. Girl’s Basketball League Mission Statement To encourage fitness, healthy lifestyle choices and team spirit through proper and safe play of the game of basketball in a safe environment. To promote a sense of fair play and group participation in striving to achieve a common goal while creating new friendships and fortifying existing ones.
Wvery effort is made to to assure all players equal playing time. Teams in each division should have a competitive game each week. Parents, players, coaches and referees representing SYSA all bring their best attitudes to the basketball court before, during and after practices and games - POSITIVE COACHING & GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP! These are our guiding principals. There are several winter sports and try as we may, unavoidable conflicts do occur between sports programs. When you register, you become part of a team. Unless special circumstances apply you are expected to be present at all practices and games. The number of players assigned to each team is based on the total number of registrants. Enrollment in the league is a commitment. If you are assigned to a team and fail to attend sessions your teammates and the league are affected negatively. Please register your child only if you plan for them to attend all games and practices.
